Located in the mountains of western North Carolina, ENV is a full service environmental consulting firm specializing in Pre-Project Environmental Planning, Wetland Delineations, 404/401 Permitting, Stream and Wetland Restoration, Environmental Investigations, and Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
ENV President, John Vilas, founded the company in 1998 and has since established a track record of quality performance and professionalism with the business, professional and regulatory communities. ENV maintains a staff of skilled professionals in the fields of biology, hydrology, geomorphology, planning, and GIS technology. Over the past 10 years ENV has gained valuable experience through the accomplishment of projects ranging in complexity from single family home sites to large multi-use developments covering several thousand acres.
ENV provides a range of services to those in the real estate and land conservation fields including re-purchase site evaluations, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, and baseline inventory studies. ENV has also completed three large scale watershed studies performed for the purpose of identifying and prioritizing parcels for conservation or restoration. These studies have led to the funding of numerous projects.

Mr. Vilas has a Masters of Environmental Management (MEM) from Duke University in Water Resource Management and 19 years of working experience in the environmental field. John Vilas provides expert advise for his clientele working directly with regulatory officials in maintaining project compliance. In addition, he has completed levels 1-4 of Fluvial Geomorphology training with Wildland Hydrology and designed over 4 miles of stream restoration in the Southern Appalachian Region, providing project management and construction oversight on the majority of those projects.

Sean Martin - Environmental Specialist

Mr. Martin has a BS in Geography and a Minor in Biology with 10 years of working experience in the environmental field. His area of expertise is in biological assessments, Threatened and Endangered species, Phase I ESA reporting, and wetland delineations.

Will Shirey - Environmental Specialist

Mr. Shirey has a MA in Geography and Planning from Appalachian State University and 3 years of working experience in the environmental field. His area of expertise is in water science. Will Shirey performs NPDES monitoring and reporting, water quality analysis and monitoring, stream flow assessment, and stream restoration work.
